Siding can be painted! It is a matter of choosing the right type of paint for it and knowing how to properly prep it. This can feel like a very large and daunting task, which is kind of is! But as long as you have the right tools, then you can do the job properly and it will last you many years!

First, the siding needs to be sprayed down with a cleaner, like tsp. once its sprayed all over the siding, you next need to power wash everything.

You will need to let the house dry, so its preferable to do this in the summer. Wait a day or two before starting the next step.

You will then lightly sand all of the siding. Once you have sanded everything, we then proceed to the fun part!

We don’t suggest a large roller because usually siding is too thin and a large roller carries too much paint. it also doesn’t fit in the cracks. We usually use a little 4″ roller with a thicker nap, 15mm. Keep a brush with you because you will need it to cut in or get into smaller places the roller doesn’t fit. you will need to cut in along the top siding board and the soffit.

You will need to do 2 coats for sure because one coat will leave what is known as overlap marks.

You just need to make sure you fill in all the cracks by either using the brush first and then rolling over the brush marks to ensure an even look, or, you can use the roller by pushing it into the cracks.
